LifeGuessr privacy policy
Last updated 7 October 2026 · The Closed Loop Company
LifeGuessr is a party game: friends add a few of their own photos, and everyone guesses where each one was taken. There are no accounts, no ads and no analytics or tracking.
What we store
- Your name as you type it, and the colour you get in a game.
- A random device ID created by the app, so the game recognises you if you rejoin. It isn't linked to your identity or any other app.
- The photos you choose to add, resized and re-encoded (the original file and its metadata are not uploaded), with the place they were taken (latitude and longitude), the place name, the date taken and an optional caption you write.
- Your guesses: where you dropped your pin, the distance and your score.
How long
Everything from a game, including the photos and their locations, is deleted automatically about 24 hours after the game was created.
Who can see it
Only the players in the same game. A photo's location is only sent to the other players once their round is over. We don't sell or share any of this data, and we don't use it for anything except running the game.
Permissions
- Photos: so you can browse your library and pick photos that have a location. Nothing is uploaded until you lock in your picks.
- Location: only to read where your chosen photos were taken (Android asks for this separately) and to look up their place names. LifeGuessr never tracks where you are.
Services we use
- Convex hosts the game server and stores the photos for the length of a game.
- OpenFreeMap serves the map. Like any website, it sees your IP address when your phone loads map tiles.
- Your phone's own system service (Apple or Google) turns a photo's coordinates into a place name.
Children
LifeGuessr is not directed at children under 13.
